Abstract
Dr. Muhammad Iqbal was a knowledgeable, well-educated and accomplished scholar. Although his education was based on oriental environment, he never considered oriental literature enough as a food for thought, so he profoundly studied ancient and modern schools of thought. This article cites Iqbal's poems inspired by Western poets, but the philosophy of Iqbal as a message can easily be traced in his derived poems as well. Iqbal embellished the derived poems with his profound thoughts, beautiful lyrics and patriotism. Iqbal used to record the opinions of various Western scholars in his diary. The present study not only quotes examples from Iqbal's diary but also presents the point of view of different western thinkers. Iqbal acknowledged their point of view and sometimes opposed them as well. This is the beauty of Iqbal's philosophy. This study unveils the sources which influenced Iqbal's philosophy. Vastness of his knowledge and study is one of the significant features of this article.
