Abstract
The Mairaj is a unique and awe-inspiring incident in human
history. The heavenly journey of the Prophet (PBUH) is not
only an expression of his personal glory but also a sign of
human greatness. There is a mention of it in two chapters of
Quran also references of it in Hadith. Muslims believe that it
was a physical journey but difference of opinion does exist
between Sahaba and scholars pertaining to this event. Some
are of the opinion that it was a dream experience other
describe it as a flight of imagination but Quran is the authentic
source of its facticity. Arabic poets have made it a topic of
their Na'at poetry and a new genre of Mairaj Naama came to
existence. The tradition of this genre also exists in Urdu. Nazr
Sabri was a great Na’at poet of recent past. He has narrated it
passionately in his Na’at poetry. He also composed a Mairaj
Naama in his student days which is an addition to this genre
with respect to its form and style. In this article, an analysis of
the Mairaj Naama with a special emphasis on poet's emotional
association is presented.
