Abstract
Iqbal has a clear vision about mysticism. Sometimes, he draws a line between
Islamic mysticism and non Islamic mysticism. But an ordinary reader of Iqbal
can feel that Iqbal criticize some of the mystic practices on the basis of his own
philosophic system. I discussed in the present article that why Iqbal appreciates
some mystic concepts while he condemns the others. Iqbal discussed in detail
the real Islamic concept of mysticism not only in his Persian and Urdu poetry
but in his letters and articles as well. He reviewed the basic mystic themes along
with its tradition in Islamic studies and then presented his own approach on this
sensitive issue. Iqbal took a bold step and clear-headed wrote the true aspects of
Islamic mysticism.
