Abstract
A survey of Lower Dir was carried our during October and Nove'nber of 2005 by a
reani of archaeologists from the Universities of Hazara, Peshawar and Leicester. The
main aim of this surve.r H,us to co/(ecr data about all archaeological sires in this area
from prehistoric through to recent historic periods in order ro develop a pro
of
luunan settlement and activity in this region. In total, 294 sites were located and
recorded (including sires already excavated and published), and within this rota/, the
vast majonry of sires have been attributed ro rhe Buddhist period.
