Pakistan has been facing different kind of challenges to its National Security since 1947. Initially the nature of the problem was mostly external in which eastern border security was a dominant concern for Pakistan. Policy makers of Pakistan had pursued policies and developed strategic relations with other countries to counter India. Over the years, nature of National Security policy has considerably transformed. Pakistan active role during Soviet-Afghan war (1979-1989) and participation in the War on terrorism as a frontline state has deep implications for its National Security. Now it faces various kinds of serious internal challenges to its National Security in the form of Militancy, Extremism and Terrorism. Now it not only has to secure its borders from external threats as well as to deal with infinite rising internal challenges.Keeping in view the nature of threats, Pakistan Army has changed its blue book and has focused more upon internal security as well as on external threats.
