An ever-growing body of literature underscores the significance of socio-economic and cultural factors as underlying the health statuses of populations. Similarly, gender is increasingly being acknowledged as an important contributor of the health of males and females. Gender differences are socially produced and accordingly result in health outcomes of both sexes However, the correlation iJetween gender and health of populations is not adequately understood. This paper represents an attempt to. develop a model to explore the mechanisms through which poorer female than male health status is produced in Pakistan.
