This study examines the impact of educational support given by the parents on the academic achievement and on the self concept of grade 4 public school students. The aims of this study were (a) to examine the linkage between academic achievement and educational support provided to the child at home and, (b) to determine whether this support directly or indirectly effects child's self concept. The data regarding parental support, its effects on the academic achievement and the self concept were collected from a sample (N =305) of grade 4 students in the urban primary and elementary public schools. The sample students who have or have not parental support were compared on two measures, (a) the annual school result report and, (b) the self concept scale. The self concept was measured twice i.e. before one month of annual school examination and after one month of announcement of annual results. The findings of the study revealed that parents’ contribution to their children's education has a consistent and positive effect on academic achievement and on the self-concept.
