The Elections of 1945-46 confirmed that Muslims of India support Muslim League and they desire for separate homeland. The whole campaign of Muslim League was on communal basis, that Muslims of India are a separate nation. After World War II British were to leave India, as promised by them and would make provision for separate homeland for Muslims in areas where they were in majority i.e., North Western and Eastern parts of India and declare these majority areas as Pakistan. The Muslim League refused to live under the dominance of Hindus Congress Party. By the same token, Sikhs and Hindus in Punjab refused to live under the dominance of Muslims, as Muslims were in majority in Punjab. The Elections of 1945-46 heralded the creation of Pakistan as an independent Muslim state. It also divided Punjab, which was a very painful experience for its people, whether they were Hindus, Muslims or Sikhs. Politics have their own dilemmas, how much it serves people and how much it makes people suffer. In this scenario, 1945-46 elections need to be probed. Throughly this article gives dispassionate view of 1945-46 elections.
