Islam is a religion of peace and tranquility. In Islam, Jihad is permissible only against the combatants. The objective of the Jihad is not to occupy countries or lands but to eradicate mischief. It is not the purpose of Jihad to forcibly bring the people into the fold of Islam. On the part of non-Muslims , Islam allows to accept their offer of peace without their conversion to Islam. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) spent whole of his life for the maintenance of peace and in the eradication of persecution from the society. Before the advent of Islam in Makkah, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) participated in a truce called Hilful-Fuzul which was aimed at protecting and safeguarding the rights of the oppressed. During the construction of Kabah, the differences on the fixation of Black Stone (Hajr-i-Aswad) emerged among the various tribes of Makkah and due to the judicious decision of the Holy Prophet, the collision of tribes was averted. After his migration to Madina, tribes residing in Madina were welded together by a treaty called Mithaq-i-Madina. In this treaty, common interests of the tribes and the peace of Madina was ensured. Religious freedom was also ensured to all the tribes who joined the treaty. The tribes living in the surrounding of Madina, were made bound to maintain peace. After the continuous aggression on the part of Quresh-i-Makkah, they were convened to sign a treaty called Truce-i-Hudaibiyah. The Jews of Khyber were defeated and they were made bound to live with peace. In 8 A.H, Makkah was conquered due to the violation of treaty of Hudaibiyah on the part of Quresh. All the inhabitants of Makkah were given general amnesty. This general amnesty resulted the acceptance of Islam by his opponents, and they became the supporters of Islam. On the condition of the payment of Jazia, the Christians of Najran were obliged to maintain peace. The tribes of Banu Mustaliq and Banu Hawazin were subdued after the battles, but instead of wreaking revenge, all their captives were set free. By his judicious strategy, he brought all the tribes of Arabia under the banner of Islam. Peace and tranquility prevailed in the region. Due to his efforts, he is rightly called the Prophet (PBUH) of peace and tranquility
