The current study is an attempt to analyze the notions of of Ibn Khaldun and Machiavelli regarding the politics as propounded in their works entitled the Prolegomena of the Kitab al-Ibar and The Prince respectively. The article, as a description and an interpretation, tries to explore the milieu, meaning and significance of two thinkers, their ideas, and political cultures in which they existed. This article encompasses a succinct survey of the common ideas regarding the social philosophy with special reference to the state and sovereignty. On the other hand, an effort has also been made to compare both of the thinkers in the points of differences in their ideas as well. Although, Islam is one of the most powerful means of explaining human life and giving meaning to our activity and motivates individuals and groups. But rightly or wrongly, it is perceived as the antagonist of the Western values. Yet, an attempt has been made to compare the Muslim political thoughts with the works of the Western thinkers. Not least, we can see both Western and Muslim political thoughts in a new light by setting the philosophy of each side by side. This was the reason for writing this article. It will, I hope, prove reason for reading it.
