Dichotomy and Appropriation of Needle and Pen by Patriarchal Interpretations and the Tradition of Women Writing

Women writers around the globe are still struggling to build a writing culture and tradition of their own because they entered the realm of formal writing late and in lesser numbers throughout history. This study looks at Pakistani fiction of women writers to explore the making tradition of women writing and the role of symbols and metaphors of patriarchal oppression grounded in culture and tradition used by women writers in building this tradition of writing. The theoretical lens of feminist standpoint theory has been used to explore texts. It is concluded that elements of the tradition of women writing are still ambiguous and faint because of patriarchal hegemony in writing. Also, the formation of this tradition of women writing banks heavily on cultural and traditional symbols and metaphors of patriarchal oppression.
