Ishq (love) is one of the fundamental issues of mysticism
and Islamic Sufism without which transcendental wisdom
cannot be understood. A Sufi’s intensity of love towards
God is such that he accepts God’s will with utmost
happiness and without making any complaints. He loves
God without the intension of receiving any kind of reward
from Him. This is the reason why love of Sufis is utterly
pure and virtuous. It is without any greed or hope of getting
something from God in return. In desire to achieve this
transcendental love, a Sufi becomes completely selfless and
accepts even the trials from Allah happily considering them
as a form of mercy or a test. With this attitude, some Sufi’s
get way too close to God and this closeness towards God is
the real essence of mysticism and Sufism. Mevlana Rumi
and Sultan Bahu, both had reached the highest level of
mysticism. Both of them have discussed the idea of
mysticism and Sufism and have beautifully highlighted
these concepts in their poetry. They have considered true
spiritual love as a means to become a complete human
being.
