If we look deep into the history of Urdu literature, it is quite obvious that Poetic
genres in Urdu have been more famous compare to Prose. Another aspect in this
regard we can fix is that evolution process of prose and specially fiction was not
as smooth and fast. But still after 19th century under the influence of English and
other literatures, we can trace speedy development of Urdu Novel. In this article
it is tried to discuss Urdu novel's own identity without comparing it with other
languages' developed Novels.
