Fantasy is a way of making the unreal and the imaginary seem as if all
fantastical appearances were a part of life, exactly as dreams are a reality but
take place on a plane which has no tangible existence.
Urdu dastans are steeped in fantasy but when the progressive movement in
literature became a sort of norm, fantasy was sidelined. However, a fresh critical
appraisal of fantastic literature has enabled us to look at fantasy from a more
sympathetic perspective.
