In this study, it is aimed to investigate the effects ofcaffeic acid phenethyl ester(CAPE) onbioelement levels of plasma, brain, kidney and liver tissues against malathion toxication in rats.The rats inControlgroupwere fed with standard feed and water. Carrier chemicalsgiven to ratswere called Sham group. 0.8 gkg-1malathion injected animals named MAL group. 10 μMkg-1CAPE injection rats were in CAPE group. To the CAPE+MAL group, first 10 μMkg-1CAPE wasadministered, after one hour, 0.8 gkg-1malathion was injected.To theMAL+CAPE group, 0.8gkg-1malathion wasinjected, after an hour, 10 μMkg-1CAPE was administered. Bioelementconcentrations in blood and tissue samples were measuredusing inductively coupledplasma-optical emission spectroscopy (ICP-OES). From the obtained data, Cu, Zn, Se, Pb, Fe, Mn levelchanges were remarkable. These elements are important because of their involvement in theantioxidant defense system and metallothioenin structure.The obtained bioelement concentrationsshow that malathion is an important factor for oxidative stress, and CAPE may an effective agentagainst lipid peroxidation induced oxidative damage in tissues.
