Methods and influences in the formation of Urdu Syntax
Abstract
The role and impact of oriental and sub-continental
scholars in the structuralization and formation of methodologies of
Urdu grammar are very significant in the history of Urdu grammar.
This article manifests that in the formation and compilation of Urdu
grammar diversified methodologies have been adopted because
the grammarians and linguists did not form Urdu grammar
according to Urdu language and its regional structure rather they
were under the influence of other foreign languages such as
Arabic, Persian and English.
So, each grammarian endeavoured to structuralise Urdu
grammar according to his fancy. However, the oriental and subcontinental scholars have made a significant contribution to the
structuralization of Urdu grammar.
For instance, Latin linguists John Joshua Ketelaer and Benjamin
Schultz, English linguists Gallstone, Hadley and Dr. John Gilchrist
and sub-continental linguists Insha Ullah Khan Insha and Maulvi
