Completion of Tafseer e Kabir: A research and Analytical Study
Abstract
The author of the under-discussion Tafseer “Mafateeh al Ghayb” is Fakhr-udDin Mohammed bin Umer bin Hussain who is commonly known as Imam
Raazi. Imam Fakhr-ud-Din Raazi was born in 544 Hijri in Al-Ray, the famous
territory of Iran. He followed beliefs of Imam Abul Hassan Asha’ri and
defended them throughout his life while he was follower of Imam Shafe’I in
Fiqh. He preferred and supported Shafe’I school of thought during his
education work. He travelled several times for seeking knowledge and then for
preaching against the beliefs of Motazilas and finally, he resided permanently
at Afghanistan. His death was caused by the poison given to him by his
opponents in Harat in 606 Hijri.
His book of Tafsir with title Mafateeh al Ghayb became the most famous of all
his books and it got the fame of “Tafsir-e-Kabeer” The great Tafsir.
There has been found a conflict among the scholars of tafsir regarding the
completion of Tafsir-e- Kabeer. Some scholars are of the view that it was
compiled completely by imam Razi whereas the other group of scholars stands
firm that this interpretation was not compiled completely by Imam Razi. It was
rather accomplished by his disciples Imam Qamoli and Khowi.
The present research centers round the different opinions regarding the
completion of Tafseer Kabir. In the light of these views there would be an
objective analysis which would lead to decisive results۔
