Guided way and narrations regarding twenty Taravih in Ramadaan
Abstract
Qiam al Lail or offering additional long night prayers is a consistent and
proven tradition of the holy prophet PBUH. He PBUH used to consistently
pray and used also to encourage his companions to offer them. While about
offering taravih in the Ramadan he never insisted upon it or imposed it on
them as he didn’t specify the number of rakats to be offered. So, some of his
companions preferred lesser rakats with long recitations in them while others
opted for more raktas with shorter recitation.
Later on, the specific number of the prayer emerged as a disputed matter.
Religious scholars disputed over whether the preferred number of rakat was
eight or twenty. Here in this article we have collected all such traditions and
narrations which prove the case of twenty rakats as preferred and approved
number of taravih. In this article we will also discuss how Hazrat Umer RA,
during his era, managed systematic offering of taravih in collective manner
and twenty in number
