Abstract
This article discusses the use of the term “female consciousness” with its several connotations as applied in Urdu criticism and research. This term is generally used for a woman’s sensibility in relation to that of a man and disregards all other aspects of her thought process, thus limiting and narrowing its scope. The writer debates the use of the term in this context and puts forth the idea that understanding of the human consciousness should rise above the male and female divide.
