Abstract
Urbanization has brought about progress for the human race at a certain cost. The constant, insatiable pursuit of physical comfort results in spiritual deprivation and loneliness, as well as a swifter aging process. Charles Baudelaire (1821-1867), a French poet, has made immense contributions to the Romantic genre, as well as offering critiques. The notion of aging in this urban culture, in particular, has been explored in several of Baudelaire’s poems. This article presents a study of some of these poems in the light of this theme.
