The Alternative Historical Narrative in Khadija Mastoor's Novel
Abstract
Literature in general and fiction in particular presents and uses the sociological and historical details of the external world. The detail sometimes helps the writer to construct the fictional world and in other times the writer presents an alternative image of the contemporary wold. Angan, a renowned novel, constructs its narrative with the prevalent political and historical situation. The narrative reflects upon the prejudices, biases and shallowness of the contemporary political culture in an alternative perspective which helps the reader to revisit and see the picture of political movements in the mirror of a family. This article analyses the novel and argues that literature can be an alternative narrative of the history.
