Abstract
In today’s world, which is full of conflicts and controversies, the humanity is puzzled and in a state of confusion due to
rampant discrimination and inequality on the basis of colour,
caste, faith and sectarian divide. People are being drifted towards hatred, extremism and terrorism and the future seems
bleak. Even the learned and intellectual sections of the society are
living in a state of uncertainty and most of them have become pessimistic.
In such conditions, people tend to take refuge in religion
or sometimes in escapism in the form of taking drugs etc, which
does n’t help them either.
There is a third option which may help the humanity in
these testing times, that is to follow the path of the Sufis – the
mystics, like Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai.
In this article the way of the Sufis has been described in
its historical perspective and its need in the modern times in general and that of Shah Latif in particular.
