Abstract
Farhang-i-Qawwas was written by Fakhar-ud-Din Qawwas, during the reign of Ala-ud-Din Khilji(695/1295 to 715/1315) It is a Persian dictionary which explains Pahlwi and Arabic words occuring in the Shahnama of Firdosi with numerous illustrations from the early poets. It is divided into five parts according to the subject for example the first part is related to God, Angels, Prophets and Holy Books etc. This is the first and fore most dictionary among the dictionaries completed in the Ind-o-Pak subcontinent. In this dictionary only about one dozen persian words have been explained with the help of Urdu synonyms. These urdu equivalents have been discussed in this research article with special reference to their usages in other persian lexico graphical works and their differences of the orthographic forms.
