Abstract
The Urdu poetic tradition had first taken roots in The Deccan and Gujrat. The Deccan's poets of Ghazal introduced new dimensions to their artistic expressions which were specific within this culture. The article discusses the Deccan poets with their bold initiative of juxtaposing the Persian and Hindi traditions. It also shows that this created a poetic ambiance where the characters were not alien to the readers of that time. These characters of Deccan Ghazal were carried through in Delhi Ghazal in the eighteenth century, and thus the process of development and evolution of these characters continued.
