ABDUL AZIZ KHALID: A MILE STONE IN MODERN URDU NAAT
Abstract
The tradition of composing glorifying verses on the Holy
Prophet (PBUH) has been very rich from the very time of
his Holiness (PBUH). Following the Arabic tradition of
Naat, poets of almost all important languages spoken by
the Muslim have been writing Naat. Urdu language being
no exception, is very fertile as regard to Naat writing.
Abdul Aziz Khalid after the pioneers of Naat in
Urdu-Ameer Minai, Muhsin Kakorvi and Haali-is
considered one of the remarkable Naat writer. Khalid is
well versed in many languages like Arabic, Persian, Hindi,
Sanskrit and Urdu. He aptly employs his multilingual
knowledge while composing Naat. He has six anthologies
of Naat to his credit. This article studies Khalid's literary
contribution particularly his Naat.
