GHAROLI: A CLASSICAL PUNJABI GENRE

Abstract
Punjabi is one of the oldest and richest languages of the world. It is the true career of the local tradition and heritage of the land of the five rivers - Punjab. Its classical as well as modern literary tradition encompasses all the genres of both prose and verse. Ghroli is one of its colorful classical poetic genres. It is composed in reverence of some saintly personalities and performed at the holy shrines. It is also sung and performed at the weddings in the Punjab. This article is a study of the Ghroli writing in Punj abi incorporating its examples from different poets.
