Abstract
Data on cotton farmers is analysed using a stochastic frontier production function model, in which technical inefficiency effects are assumed to be a function of other observable variables related to the farming operations. Although most cotton, farmers have high technical efficiency of production in the Vehari district; there is a significant proportion of the sample farmers who have much lower levels of technical efficiency. Technical inefficiency of cotton production tends to decrease for farmers who first irrigated their crop and then performed ragging, but inefficiencies tends to increase with more interculture operations.
