Like the other areas of the country a local judicial
system also presents in Pukhtoon territory that is
called Jarga. This system has a prime role and was
constituted to resolve the disputes of various
natures at gross root level. Easy and rapid solution
to conflicts made this system more propagated and
exercised as compared to judicial system. But this
system was criticized for some reasons. These were:
Handing over the authority to ineligible and
disqualified persons, crossing the limitation in
making decisions, acquiring personal means and
interests etc. It was necessary to streamline this sort
of local system and make it in line with the socioreligious aspects of Islam. The article under
reference will highlight the various aspects of Jarga
system.
