Abstract
Mosque carries and important position
in theMuslim society and plays an important
role in the daily life of every Muslim. The
Muslim community has a spiritual, social as well
as political attachment to it. Mosque has
remained a place of worship as well as a center
of social activities.
The importance of mosque is evident .
The history of Muslims bears witness that
mosque has played a central role in the cultural
and social life of the Muslims. On one side it
has remained a place of worship while on the
other it has played role of an educational
institution, judicial court and a center of
political activities.
In the contemporary era, mosque can
play an important role in molding Muslim
society towards betterment . The present article
is an endeavor to highlight its role in promoting
a tolerant and harmonious society .In this regard
the role of Imam and his followers is of immense
importance as they regularly meet five time a
day. It is the responsibility of Imam to guide his
followers in all walks of life and particularly
teach them the importance of a tolerant, socially
coherent and amicable society .
