Abstract
TheDiagnosticandStatisticalManualofMentalDisorders– oftenreferredtoastheDSM– isknownwiththetitleofDiagnosticBibleforMentalHealthProfessionals.Int heUnitedStatestheDSMservesasauniversalauthorityforpsychiatricdiagno sis.ThefirstversionofDSMwaspublishedin1952,sincethattimeithasunderg oneseveralrevisions,withthemostrecentedition–DSM-- publishedinMay18,2013,supersedingtheDSM-IVTRpublishedin2000.TheDSMincludesallinformationrelatedtoeverypsyc hiatricdisorder,specificcriteriarequiredforadiagnosis,aswellasacomprehe nsiveoverviewofeachdisorder.Ineveryrevision,thetargetwastoorganizean dclassifythedisorderbasedonrecentresearchfindings,incorporatingtheinp utofexpertsofdifferentprofessionalssuchaspsychiatrists,psychologists,ne urologists,pediatriciansandsocialworkers
