Abstract
Social media, advanced mobile technologies and the fast speed internet access have malformed the lifestyle and their daily routine where selfie taking phenomena has emerged as pivot activity of university students. The propensity of capturing own pictures has become into a noticeable truth of the digital culture of the Pakistani society. The main idea of the study is to investigate the popularity and various effects of selfie taking behavior among university students of mass communication and media studies in Karachi. Moreover, current study also examined the perception towards taking selfie and its contact with psychology of media students. The study was based on survey method was used structured questionnaire. 120 students were participated through convenience sampling method for this study from five universities’ media studies and mass communication departments. The insights of the research showed that a good number of the of respondents admitted that they taking selfies send them on social media and feel happy when people like their selfies. 76(71.66%) of students states that taking a selfie can turn deadly. It was found from the study 62(51.66%) of the respondents determined with the statement taking selfies is a waste of time.
