Abstract
The paper attempts to compare the Pak- Afghan transit trade pre and
post Afghanistan-Pakistan Transit Trade Agreement (APTTA ) and
argues that the conversion of Afghanistan’s transit trade towards Iran
during the last 3-4 years is not the after effects of APTTA alone but
other factors are involved like lack of sufficient infrastructure,
deteriorating law and order situation in Pakistan, the worsening
relations between US/NATO due to Salala and Abbottabad incidents ,
high transit costs, un-necessary delay, decline in Afghanistan’s imports
etc. The paper also attempts to suggest recommendations for catching
afghan transit trade and controlling the smuggling of transit goods at
the end.
