Linguistic Characteristics of Arabic Words Used in Urdu
Abstract
This research deals with Arabic words which are used in Urdu language in two ways. Firstly it discussed the relation of Arabic language with Urdu language historically. On the other hand it studies that words through phonetics, morphologically and semantically. The research signifies the theory that relation was not a direct one but this borrowing happened in Persian language directly and as Persian language was the official language of Mughals in the subcontinent and Persian words became part of Urdu language in large. It proved that these words had got these changes in Persian scripts, phonetics and then are transferred into Urdu language.
