Abstract
It is undeniable reality that the Holy Qur’an is a book of guidance for all human beings as it addresses people of different classes, races and colors, their minds, hearts, feelings and conscience. It must be acknowledged that the Holy Qur’an is miraculous in its wordings and meanings. Translating the Holy Qur’an into the languages of the world contributes in presenting the origins of Islam and its teachings to all human beings in various languages. However, translating the Holy Qur’an is not an easy matter, and no one can tackle this laborious task. Rather, there must be a set of constraints and standards that must be observed during translation process. Translating the meanings of the Holy Qur’an into any language has great importance, because Muslims who do not speak Arabic need a correct and reliable translation in order to understand the message of Allah Almighty revealed to the Humanity and to present to Non-Muslims in a clear and accurate way, so that they may get a correct and positive image of the Holy Book of Allah Almighty. This study explains the meaning of translation, its types mentioned by Arab and western scholars in addition to difference between “Translation” and “Exegesis”. This research also discusses the constraints and standards set for rendering the meanings of the Holy Qur’an. It also highlights opinions and standpoints of various specialists who stress to adhering to constraints and standards during translating process of the meaning of the Holy Qur’an.
