Abstract
We report the qualitative analysis of suspended particufate matter (SPM) collected from various
residential sites of Faisalabad (an industrial city) and Layyah (a non industrial city). The stud y was conducted due to numerous hazardous effects of SPM on human health. We have characterized and
compared the elements present in the suspended particulate Matter (SPM). The characterization of
the compounds and heavy metals was carried out using X-Ray diffraction technique. The samples were
collected using an air sampler, strained to remove fibrous or other undesired material and sieved to 8et uniform 8rain size. Each sample was 8round in mortar and pestle for its homogenous consistency. The XRD analysis was carried ant using Hanawalt method of phase identification. It has
been fotind that Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Nickel (Ni) and Lead (Pb) are present in the atmosphere of Faisalabad while Manganese (Mn) and Copper (Cu) are detected in the atmosphere of
Layyah
