Abstract
In this article, customs and traditions of Bahawatpur are investigated. In historical terminology, it is referred as Hakara valley civilization. This civilization resided by the sides of river Hakara, as the river changed its course of flow the Hakara civilization vanished in the .folds of time. The author has discussed the various religions and civilization effects on the area. The geography of the land, the closeness with desert Cholistan reflects in people moods, songs and literature. The people wear simple clothes that suit their environment that is loose Trousers (Shalwar) and loose Shirt called choola and cover their heads with head gears called pagri The advent of Muslims further enhanced the culture of the people in this region. The women jewelry, attire and their peculiar way of life is also peeped through. Marriage, birth, death and other seasonal and religious customs and ceremonies of Muslims and non-Muslims gives close touch to the life of natives of Bahawalpur.
