Abstract
A brief review of soil testing and evaluating soil fertility assessment programme in relation to fertilizer use efficiency has been reported and discussed with special reference to the work done in Pakistan and other neighbouring countries, India and Bangladesh. The main idea is to highlight the deficiencies/gaps which still exist and suggest measures for improvement, with special reference to fertilizer use efficiency. Besides, a worth-mentioning achievement lately accomplished in the development of soil quick testing kit is the preparation of a long-lasting modified reagent used in the assessment of available phosphorus.
