Abstract
The paperin hand presents a researchon the use and usefulness of semi-bilingual English to English and Urdu dictionary (EEUD) in Pakistan. This research is related to the theoretical lexicography as it deals with the use, users and the usefulness of dictionary.Protocol studymethod, in line with Diab’s (1990) concept, has been applied for this study, which is qualitative in nature. However, numeric analyseshavealso been presented in tables and graphs to compensate the subjectivity of qualitative discussion. The participants of this research are the non-native learners of the English language studying English at the graduate level in Pakistan. The study finds that a semi-bilingual EEUD is a great source of information for the learners as most of the times the participants have successfully exploitedthis type of dictionary. The results also indicate that the learners need more than one dictionary in order to resolve their problems related to vocabulary. It is found in rare cases, where the learners have to fall back on themonolingual English to English dictionary.
