Abstract
Background:Domesticviolenceduringpregnancyisanimportantsocial&healthissueinallsocieties.InMuslimworldandparticularlyunderdevelopedcountries,domesticviolenceisoftenunderreported.Itistheneedofhourtoencouragereportingofsuchevents&implementationofresearch-basedpoliciesforpreventionofwomenabuse&supportofthevictimsofdomesticviolence(DV).Theobjectiveofthisstudywastohighlightthisneglectedsocialproblemofoursociety&toidentifyatriskpopulation.Methods:ThisisacrosssectionalstudyconductedatAyubTeachingHospital&BenazirBhuttoShaheedTeachingHospital,Abbottabad(January2014toDecember.2016).PregnantwomenwereinquiredregardinghistoryofabusebyhusbandandsociodemographiccharacteristicswerenotedinaPerformatoanalysetheriskfactorsfordomesticviolence.Results:Theoverallprevalencewasfoundtobe35%.Outof1000pregnantwomen,270(27%)sufferedfromsimpleviolenceand60(6%)werevictimsofgrievousassault.Violenceamongpregnantwomenisfoundtobemoreprevalentamongresidentsofurbanareas,womenofolderagebeinguneducated&belongingtopoorsocioeconomicstatus.Conclusion:Domesticviolenceduringpregnancyisacommon&oftenneglectedpsychosocialhealthproblem.Highriskpopulationneedstobeidentifiedsothatpreventivestrategiescanbeplanned&implemented
