Abstract
Urdu short has a vibrant history. It has developed and used different techniques, forms and narrative strategies to articulate the changing sensibilities of last century. During last couple of decades, the ability of Urdu Short story to capture and narrate the contemporary sensibility has been questioned by different critics. This article explores and answers the basis of the arguments against short story by examining the stories written in the last few decades in terms of the social values. It is argued that the Urdu short story has engaged with the mobility of social values, contemporary human situation and cultural norms artistically.
