Abstract
Essay is a form of literature and occupies a distinguished status
among other famous forms of prose. It has its own principles,
methods, characteristics and importance. An essayist presents
contemporary political, social and intellectual issues in symmetrical
and impressive way. Essay is based on information, facts, evidence,
arguments, meditation and feelings. The language of the essay is
concise, expressive to present the analysis and views on a certain
subject. Essay is the literary form which suits the contemporary spirit
and trend of the age, so it place is always elevated. The writers,
through their essays, present their views, perceptions, ideas and
through essays they present the remediation of the issues and
difficulties of life.
This article elaborates the concept of essay, it evolution in West and
Arab. The article also surveys its important kinds as well as the
prominent writers of essay and at the end it draws a conclusion based
on the discussion.
