Abstract
The literal meaning of the word sirah is to travel and a method(or manner (of doing a thing, a habit, with a positive as well as negative connotations with for an example such an adjective. Literally, it also means international law of a country, as well as it means the life or biography of a person. In the Islamic studies, it refers to the life of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in a very broad and comprehensive manner. Firstly, it means the relation of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, with non-Muslims, which was also known as maghazi and siyar(, for an example Kitab al-Maghazi by Urwa bin Zubayr(d. 92 AH( and Kitab al-Maghazi by Musa bin Uqba(d. 141 AH(.Secondly, it refers to the life of the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, in a chronological manner unlike the hadith literature, which is arranged consistent with the subject matter, for example Sirat Rasul-Ullah by Ibn Ishaq(d. 150 AH( and Sirat an-Nabawiyah by Ibn Hisham(d 151 AH(.Thirdly, it encompassed so much so that anything related to the Holy Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, becames a part of the sirah literature, even deducing of laws and lessons from his life, for example Subul ul-Huda by Muhammad bin Yusuf Saleh Shami(d. 942 AH( and Sira tun-Nabawiyah by Dr Mustafa Sibai(d. 1964 AD)
