Abstract
Shiv Kumar a trend setter poet of modern Punjabi poetry. He
died a very young age of 36 years. He was a romantic poet,
his poetry has criticised by the progressive and Marxists for
not Presenting the harsh realities of life but His poetry is full
of pains, miseries, Pathos, lover's agony and above all the
sorrows of separation. He wrote a poetic play "Loona" (a new
genre of punjabi literature) which is now considered a master
piece in the modern punjabi literature. In this play, he granted
a new dimension to the traditional story of Pooran Baggat.
On this Play, he became the youngest recepient of Sahitya
Academy Award. He used to sing his own verses with such a
painful voice that forces masses to shed the tears.In this
research article, an attempt has been made to explore the life,
work and themes of Shiv's Poetry with suitable refrences.
