Abstract
Mushtaq Ahmed Yousafi is a big name in Urdu prose particularly in humor. This article foregrounds a hidden aspect of yousafi's humor that is tragedy. This article unearths the shades of Yousafi's language, his elevated imagination and thoughts, his contribution in the tradition of Urdu humor, and elements of tragedy in his creative works. It also encompasses and compares the theoretical positions of Pitras Bukhari and Muhammad Hassan Askari. The elements and features of socio-cultural tragedy have also been discovered from the text[s] of Yousafi in this article. The researcher reckonsYousafi as a matchless lingual craftsman, innovative linguist, and a fiction writer par excellence who knows the art of substantiating the pain and pangs of human society in text[s] in a way that targets a lay man's intellectual sphere like Sarshar and Aazad.
