Abstract
This article presents the discourse of culture and civilization in Urdu language
and literature with a special reference to the book named "Urdu and Combined
Indian Civilization" edited by Dr. Kamil Quraishi. The article points out the
elements of Combined Indian civilization which evolved through a long process
of about 700 years and influenced Urdu language and literature which is purely
the production of Sub-continent. Each civilization has its own specific
historical, geographical, social and psychological elements. But the Indian
civilization has a mixture of local and foreign elements which are indespensible
to eachother. This mixture depicts some characteristics of Islamic civilization
and Hindu civilization as well. The new civilization formed after a long
Hindu-Muslim interaction at different levels, neither represents the Islamic
civilization nor the Hindu civilization purely and is known as the Combined
Indian Civilization. Urdu is the production of that combined civilization and the
Urdu literature has a great exposure to this civilization. Indian Combined
Civilization and the Urdu language and literature have a considerable
contribution to eachother
