Abstract
Dr. Jamil Jalbi is a well-known historiographer,critic,linguist,translator
and editor. He has written history of Urdu literature in four
volumes.These volumes have got immense praise from critics.Dr. Jamil
Jalbi has compiled very first Mathnavi of Urdu literature (Kadam Rao
PadamRao) for which he got his D. Lit degree.His work of translation of
western poets and criticsalso received great admiration from
critics.Apart from these services he has also worked for Urdu language
and has compiled dictionaries of Urdu. Dr. Jamil Jalbi has editted
Dewan e Nusrati and Dewan e Hasan Shoqi.Editing of Dewan e Nusrati
is a great contribution towards Urdu language and literature.Dr.Jalbi
has edited this dewan according to the standard method of editing and
has brought out some new facts about life and literary contribution of
Nusrati.He has also studied the language of that time very
closely.Because of this contribution he has done great service to protect
and promote old Urdu literature.
