Abstract
This piece offers an Urdu rendition of a conversation between Richard
Kearney and Jacques Derrida and a very brief introductory interpretation
of the latter's work. The conversation revolves round the meaning and
implications of concepts like deconstruction and the importance of
"Other" Derrida also discusses his intellectual relationship with other
writers and comments upon some modern movements like feminism. The
introduction written by the translator attempts to identify the most basic
concern underlying Derrida's attack on logo-centricism and the idea of
'presence', his notion of difference etc., and almost everything with which
his name has been associated in our literary circles. It is proposed, in the
light of a Heideggerian analysis of the meaning of 'logos' as 'gathering'
(Sammeln), that Derrida's basic concern is 'openness' and he is out against
anything that compromises openness or 'gathers' and binds thing and ideas
together.
