Abstract
Style has been an object of study in literature since long. In this research paper
Saleem Ahmed's style of criticism as the proper adornment of thought has been
studied. Saleem Ahmed a prolific Urdu critic, whom rhetorical figures and
syntactical patterns produce a unique literary style, is analyzed here the way his
style arises from the possibility of choice among alternative forms of expression.
Salim Ahmed's critical appreciation is not simply to describe the formal features
of texts for their own sake, but in order to show their functional significance for
the interpretation of the text or in order to relate literary issues to the social and
ideological causes where these are felt to be relevant. Salim Ahmed's
resemblance and relevance with his mentor, renowned Urdu critic, Muhammad
Hasan Askari has also been considered. Moreover, what has been written about
Salim Ahmed's style in last fifty years is critically examined to evaluate his
contribution to Urdu criticism.
