Abstract
This articl e p resents un publish ed letters of Dr . M uhammad
Hamidullah.Muhammad Hamidullah's letters are purely of religious and
academic nature. In his letters to Khadija Hashmi, he endorses the celebration
of the EidMilad al-Nabi, and argues in its religious validity. His letter to
Muhammad HasanAskari reveals that he mostly avoided translating his own
works, originally in French, into Urdu or some other languages. In his letters to
Mukhtaruddin Ahmad Arzoo he describes the location of the manuscripts of
the works of the great scholars, and also provides some details of his scholarly
achievements. His letter to Sayyid Muhammad MateenHashmi, unfolds his
views on issues of Islamic jurisprudence. He also laments on the status of
women in the Western society
