Abstract
Rasoom-e-Hind (1868), a book written in Urdu prose which was used
in Lahore, is of immense importance because for the first time two different
ways had been adopted for the description of religious beliefs, rites and
rituals, marital lives, behavioral patterns and moral values of Muslims and
Hindus. It is purely informational content on the one hand and realism on
the other in which story writing technique has been used for the first time
based on fictional style. It is of worth attention that the stories written in
Rasoom-e-Hind have fundamental importance in the history of Urdu fiction.
It may not be needless to mention here that these stories served the basis
of fiction writing that started in Lahore in 1868.
